Ray Mickens along with NFL players Aveion Cason, Dexter Coakly, James Reed, Kevin Mathis, John Skelton, Terence Shaw, Tyson Thompson, Schinn Kerr, Brian Young, Lemuel Stinson, Scooter McGruger, Jerald Sowell, Correll Buckhalter, Josh Evan, Tony Curtis, Dave Atkins, Russell Maryland, Larry Centers, and Cyrus Gary visited patients at El Paso Children’s Hospital. The NFL Players conducted a child life session and autograph session for the patients bringing smiles and laughter.

Drug Endangered Children’s Day Public Signing at EPCH

In honor of National Drug Endangered Children’s Day, April 24, the Drug Endangered Children Taskforce (DEC) held a public signing at the El Paso Children’s Hospital. Participating agencies signed the Memorandum of Understanding and vowed to collaborate together in an effort to improve the identification and intervention of children in drug endangered environments and prevent the next generation of drug abuse.

All local constables, County and City Chiefs of Police, DEA, FBI, Child Protective Services, Judge Oscar Gabaldon, Judge Gutierrez, County and District Attorneys, El Paso Fire Department, El Paso Children’s Hospital CEO Lawrence Duncan and EPCH Physician in Chief & TTUHSC Chair of Pediatrics Dr. Bradley Fuhrman, as well as other agencies were present to affirm their commitment to Drug Endangered Children.

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health estimates that 11.9% of children live with at least one parent who is dependent on or abuses alcohol and/or drugs. This translates to nearly 802,000 drug endangered children across the state of Texas and 29,242 children in El Paso County.

The Region’s First-Ever Biomedical Research Symposium

Camino Real Hotel, Downtown El Paso

The symposium will convene biomedical scientists, researchers, clinicians, graduate students and other medical professionals from across the region. The purpose will be to motivate and facilitate inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional research collaborations that can lead to biomedical innovations or solutions. Collaboration grants will be awarded to teams that spinout of the symposium with viable projects.
