EL PASO – Raynolds Street was closed down Friday night as crews work to install new drainage systems and renovate the existing roadway.
With Raynolds Street shut down from the interstate to Alameda, traffic to University Medical Center and the El Paso Children’s Hospital will have to be detoured.
“It’ll be a little messy for a while, but the project overall will be fantastic for the area,” said Larry Duncan, CEO of the El Paso Children’s Hospital.
Raynolds Street is the fastest and most direct way to get to the hospitals.
Residents said the construction is making it more congested in an already busy area.
“It’s a big inconvenience cause we’re trying to get to work fast or we’re trying to get to our destination as soon as possible,” said Daniel Gonzalez who lives in the area.
For now the only way to get to the hospitals is to exit I-10 at Piedras and turn left onto Alameda if you’re coming from the westside.
If your traveling from the eastside, exit I-10 at Paisano and turn left at the light then right onto Alameda.
Construction is expected to be completed by August 3rd.
