Mila Mae has always been a happy girl. Even at the young age of 3, she’s so adventurous, fearless even. Right about the time she learned to walk is when we knew we would have our hands full with her. She’s not your typical little girl. Some of her favorite things to do are to go out on a boat, float the river and go tubing, she absolutely loves the outdoors! Summertime is her season. And swimming has to be one of her all-time favorites.

But as much as she is adventurous she also has a calm sweet side. Her older brother, Eli, is on the Autism spectrum, and she has so much patience for him. She includes him when she plays and tries so hard to understand him when he’s having a hard time. She has unknowingly helped her big brother in so many ways.

Mila Mae is a light!
She has an adventurous little spirit with a heart full of kindness. She brings so much joy to us all! Even her best pal Boots, her corgi, whom she adores!

It was Christmas Eve 2020 when we first noticed something was off, she began limping, and complaining of pain in her hip area. I took her to her Pediatrician after I didn’t see her improve. Initially, with how active she always was, I thought maybe she had just bumped herself, nothing serious.
She saw her doctor and we were sent home with antibiotics and told to return for a checkup in a week. In that week we were home, Mila Mae changed. Mila wanted to sleep more, she was less active, didn’t play, and complained of pain.

It was at one of her weekly checkups that her doctor took one look at her and immediately sent us to El Paso Children’s Hospital, where she was immediately diagnosed by the oncology team and put into a treatment plan.

We are so thankful for the team here. Mila Mae has and continues to receive amazing care.
