The 24,000 square-foot pediatric unit includes a total of 26 patient rooms in addition to two procedure rooms: 16 general pediatric rooms and 10 intermediate care rooms with capability of two epilepsy monitoring unit (EMU) status rooms. The new intermediate care unit (IMCU) is designed for children whose conditions may require extended hospital stays due to dependence on medical technology to support respiratory, nutritional or other needs.

Our team of specialists include an epileptologist, our Chief of Neurosciences, and our Medical Director of Neurosurgery to ensure that our unit is equipped with the latest advancements in neurological care and provide surgical options for patients who may benefit from such interventions. Together, this dedicated team is committed to enhancing the quality of life for individuals affected by epilepsy: from infants to adolescents, new-onset seizures, and uncontrolled epilepsy. We can also handle suspected non-epileptic events and pre-surgical evaluation for epilepsy surgery.

This new level of care will free beds in the pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) for greater access to intensive care for young patients. El Paso Children’s Hospital expects to care for over 250 pediatric seizure cases per year.
