AERODIGESTIVE CLINIC

The Aerodigestive Clinic specializes in the comprehensive and multidisciplinary management of children with complex airway and digestive tract disorders. We focus on conditions affecting the upper airway, lungs, and upper digestive tract, providing coordinated care through a team of expert specialists.


ASTHMA

We are committed to providing integrated, family-centered care by a team of pediatric specialists to treat complex and severe cases of asthma. This comprehensive approach allows us to confirm the diagnosis, identify and manage comorbid conditions and symptoms, and develop tailored treatment strategies, along with patient education on inhaler technique and medication.


BRACHIAL PLEXUS

Our multidisciplinary team includes specialists from orthopedics, neurosurgery, plastic surgery, rehab services, and social work. They specialize in the care of infants and children with brachial plexus injuries, brachial plexus birth palsy, complete palsy with flail arm, spinal cord injuries, spasticity, peripheral nerve injuries and disorders, and more. The team works with families on surgical interventions, coordination of therapy services, diagnostic testing, and potential bracing needs.

CONCUSSION

Our concussion treatment team combines several pediatric specialties such as neurology and sports medicine. A child in our care may be treated by physical and occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, and potentially ophthalmologists or speech-language pathologists, to address the complex, neurobiopsychosocial symptoms that can affect cognition, emotion, and physical function. This integrated approach enables us to address persistent post-concussion symptoms (PCS).

CRANIAL FACIAL

Children with conditions affecting the head and face sometimes need surgery to give their brain room to grow. Our team of experts include oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMFS), neurosurgeons, dentists, orthodontists and ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeons working together to help children who may need bones in their face reconstructed to help them breath, chew and develop appropriately. They specialize in craniosynostosis (isolated and syndromic); rare craniofacial clefts; undersized jaw; Apert, Crouzon, and Pfeiffer syndromes (dentofacial deformities); Treacher Collins syndrome; small or underdeveloped parts of the face; and more.

CYSTIC FIBROSIS

Cystic fibrosis is a chronic disease affecting glands throughout the body and affects mostly the lungs and pancreas. Breathing problems and wheezing; chronic cough with thick mucus; constipation; failure to thrive; greasy, bulky stools; increased saltiness in sweat; lung infections; persistent sinus problems, such as sinusitis or a chronic stuffy nose are all symptoms treated by our Cystic Fibrosis team. The team is made up of specialists from pulmonology and gastroenterology who work closely with our respiratory therapists and dietitians to help patients grow up as healthy as possible.

EPILEPSY

The region’s first ever pediatric epilepsy monitoring unit is a specialized inpatient unit designed for the evaluation, comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and care for pediatric patients with seizures or seizure-like episodes.Our team of specialists include an epileptologist, our Chief of Neurosciences, and our Medical Director of Neurosurgery to ensure that our unit is equipped with the latest advancements in neurological care and provide surgical options for patients who may benefit from such interventions.

HEARING LOSS

Our team of pediatric specialists includes audiologists and otolaryngologists (ENTs), as well as a support staff to provide comprehensive care and support for the child and family. This coordinated approach ensures accurate diagnosis, personalized treatment plans that may include hearing aids, cochlear implants, or medical/surgical interventions, and vital support for communication, language, and overall development.

LIPID

Our lipid multidisciplinary clinic is a care team focusing on optimizing management of lipid disorders and cardiometabolic risks in pediatric patients. Children benefit from our collaborative approach to lipid management to treat high levels of fats (lipids) like cholesterol and triglycerides in the blood, stemming from genetic conditions, poor diet, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, or other medical conditions.


OSTEOGENESIS IMPERFECTA

Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder that prevents the body from building strong bones. Is also know as brittle bone disease. Our team is made up of orthopedic surgeons, physical and occupational therapists, and pulmonologists. While there is no cure for osteogenesis imperfecta, our team’s treatments can help kids with problems related to the condition.

PLAGIOCEPHALY

Pediatric plagiocephaly multidisciplinary treatment focuses on a combination of conservative measures like tummy time and repositioning, combined with physical therapy for neck and motor issues, and sometimes includes cranial orthosis (helmet) therapy for more severe cases. A multidisciplinary team, which may include neurosurgery, pediatric physical therapy, and orthotics specialists, helps determine the best course of action based on cranial measurements and the baby’s needs.

SCOLIOSIS

Our pediatric scoliosis treatment employs a team of specialists, including orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, orthotists, and nurses, to create an individualized plan for each child. Treatment options range from observation for mild curves to various surgical procedures like spinal fusion or growth-friendly options.


SPINA BIFIDA

Spina bifida occurs during the first months of pregnancy when the spine of the baby fails to close. Common complications associated with this condition include bowel and bladder problems; developmental delays; paralysis, sensation loss or weakness in the lower extremities and fluid accumulation in the brain (hydrocephalus) that requires drainage. Our Spina Bifida clinic is a multidisciplinary team from orthopedic surgery, neurosurgery and urology. Some patients will require all or some of the services and have access to nutrition, social services, and physical therapy as needed. Prenatal evaluations are also available.

VASCULAR ANOMALIES

Babies, children and teens with various conditions affecting the blood and lymphatic vessels are treated in our Vascular Anomalies Clinic. These include complex vascular malformations, complex infantile and congenital hemangiomas, LUMBAR syndrome, PHACES syndrome, PIKC3A-related overgrowth syndromes (PROS), and many others. Our multidisciplinary team is composed of pediatric subspecialists in dermatology, oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS), interventional radiology, and plastic surgery.
