A Pediatric Ear, Nose and Throat Physician, also known as a Pediatric ENT or Pediatric Otolaryngologist, is a medical doctor (M.D.) with years of additional, specialized training in the function of childrens’ ears, nose and throat, the childhood diseases that can impact these structures and the best treatments for them.
After graduating from medical school, Pediatric ENTs usually serve a lengthy residency in Otolaryngology. Many also seek out additional training and education in Pediatric Otolaryngology throughout their careers, to make sure they have the most current medical understanding and treatments for nose, ear and throat-related diseases in kids.
Because the nose, throat, ears and skull are growing throughout childhood, these structures can be very different in children than they are in adults. Children also have certain issues and conditions more often than adults and older teens, like ear infections.
A Pediatric ENT is skilled at understanding the problems that can arise with these vital systems in children, and how growth can play a part. They’re also trained to work closely with parents and caregivers to monitor a child’s care.
