Her heart felt like it was going to come out of her chest. Destanie had extremely high blood pressure–like she was experiencing a heart attack! The team at El Paso Children’s Hospital discovered an extremely rare condition: a tumor pressing on her adrenal gland. She was a star volleyball and softball player at Santa Teresa High School, and Destanie was also getting ready to celebrate her quinceañera! She did not have time for this!

Dr. William Spurbeck scheduled a surgery to remove the benign tumor, then cardiologist Dr. Srinivasa Badugu gave her a clean bill of health. Even with rare cases, El Paso Children’s had the specialists to treat Destanie close to home. She soon got back on schedule and nailed her fun dance! No pressure!
