When our NICU opened it offered one of the highest levels of neonatal care in the region. But being amongst the best wasn’t good enough. We wanted to provide the highest level of care, period. That’s why we made an intense, all out effort to receive a Level IV NICU designation. So we can offer a full range of pediatric subspecialties in order to provide the children in our area with the highest level of care possible. Not just the highest for the El Paso region. The highest, period. Fully staffed with highly qualified neonatologists and a multidisciplinary team of pediatric sub-specialists, our NICU is able to provide comprehensive care for high-risk newborn infants with critical illnesses and complex medical and surgical conditions. Our dedicated team is ready to provide the highest quality neonatal care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, giving families peace of mind.
El Paso Children’s Hospital NICU can provide the cooling blanket system treatment to newborn infants with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). HIE occurs when a baby is deprived of oxygen, which can happen before or during delivery. Our neonatologists and pediatric sub-specialists determine which newborn infants would benefit from the use of the cooling blankets and work with families to determine the best plan of action for their child. The cooling blanket is placed under the newborn baby for 72 hours, cooling the baby to a safe body temperature, which slows the baby’s metabolic process and helps decrease brain damage caused during HIE and increases the newborn infant’s likelihood of a healthy recovery.
The Nicview Webcam System is offered as part of our commitment to providing patient- and family-centered care to you. With Nicview, you see your newborn in the NICU from a computer or mobile device via a webcam.
So when you need to be away from your baby, no matter where you are, you can see your child in real time (during scheduled periods) via an Internet connection.
Webcams are cameras mounted above the isolette creating a virtual window to your baby. Whether you need to be away for a night, a family member lives far away, or your neighbor wants to see the newest addition to your family, it’s now possible for all to view the baby.
Strengthening the Bond
Bonding between parents and their newborn is as important in the NICU as it is at home. Having the ability to watch your baby from the convenience of your computer or mobile device (can help keep you stay involved and informed—and strengthens the connection between you and your baby when you cannot be at the bedside.
